Rehab
1 is an International Harvester Metro 1500 Step Van which was
previously used by the Bayonne Fire Canteen as their Primary canteen
vehicle. The unit was purchased on March 9, 2005 and required extensive repairs and upgrades delaying our
deployment of this vehicle by almost five months,
however on September 10, 2005 this truck was placed in
service. Rehab 1 is equipped with all stainless steel
cabinetry, a 3 gallon propane powered coffee / hot water urn, a
propane powered steam table and a large ice chest / cooler.
Modifications to this unit included a complete rewire and upgrade of
all 12 volt systems, dual battery installation, 120 volt wiring,
lighting and on-board inverter with optional shoreline connection and
various safety related features added. Our future upgrades will
be mostly cosmetic in nature with the exception of additional storage
space and a 40 gallon fresh water storage tank.
Additional equipment carried on this vehicle include
two butane powered porta-stoves various cooking implements and basic
food stock to sustain rehabilitation services for up to twenty-four
hours before re-supply.
The possibilities with this vehicle have been
endless, the steam table enables us to cook and serve hot meals on an
extended scene, and with the recent addition of portable stoves to our
arsenal the only limitation is on-board storage which is easily solved
by having our tender unit transfer supplies from our well stocked
freezers to the scene as needed.
Rehab
2 is a Dodge medium duty extended cargo van
that
is used during spring and summer months as a first response vehicle
and during late fall and winter months as a communications and support
vehicle for extended scenes. Some of the upcoming modifications
during the spring of 2006 will include the addition of a 110
gallon water tank, custom built storage compartments for supplies,
misters and other equipment and benches for personnel transport and
shelter purposes. Included in our planned upgrades are the
incorporation of an inverter and or generator as well.
Some of the equipment carried on this vehicle
include extra bottled water, basic canteen supplies, Spare propane
tanks, a large capacity ice chest, ice tubs, towels,
lighting, tents, tarps, chairs, spare coolers and soon we will also
have mister fans on board (during the late fall and winter months we
carry salamander style propane heaters instead of the mister system).
Rehab
3 is a 1996 Odessa Industries Class-A RV on a Ford
bus chassis which in its previous life served as an under utilized mobile
medical clinic specially built by Odessa for St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center,
Paterson, NJ. Rehab three will be equipped with a full kitchen, refrigeration
unit and scene lighting. This rehab unit will also provide a spacious
climate controlled mass rehab area. The truck is presently
equipped with an 85 pound propane tank, redundant Generac continuous duty
generators, 100 Gallon clean water storage tanks plus ample
storage space and a large 25' canopy on its passenger side. This vehicle
was generously donated to us by St. Josephs on September 13, 2006, so
the vehicle will be placed in service while we make modifications
during the fall and should only be placed out of service during a
short period while it is painted to our color scheme.
Rehab three will be used for response to all up
county or long distance calls, during adverse weather conditions, and
long duration fire scenes.
All vehicles are or will be equipped with radios to
enable us to communicate with departments through out the county, as
well with OEM and state agencies as required. All vehicle are in
the process of being equipped with MDTs (Mobile Data Terminals)
and will feature real time intranet and internet access, GPS and
mapping software with real time traffic updates. Our extended
plans include the ability to bring VoIP and WiFi access to the
fire scene should the need arise.
